Vehicle Export Buyer's Guide

Learn how to safely buy and export a vehicle internationally. This step-by-step guide covers everything from finding the right vehicle and contacting the dealer, to arranging payment, shipping, and clearing customs.

Step-by-step export process

  1. Find your vehicle — Browse the categories or use the search function. Every listing shows photos, year, mileage, specifications and price. Feel free to compare several vehicles and dealers.
  2. Contact the dealer — Every listing includes the dealer's contact details. Ask all your questions: technical condition, service history, extra photos or videos, availability. Most dealers respond quickly and speak several languages.
  3. Negotiate and close the deal — You negotiate the price directly with the dealer. Agreed? Always request a proforma invoice stating the vehicle (with chassis number/VIN), the agreed price, the delivery terms (e.g. EXW, FOB or CIF) and the payment terms.
  4. Pay safely — Pay by bank transfer to the dealer's business account, in the company name as stated on the invoice. Keep all proof of payment.
  5. Arrange transport — Collect the vehicle yourself, or have it shipped. Many dealers work with freight forwarders and can arrange complete transport including documents.
  6. Receive your vehicle and documents — After payment and (for export outside the EU) preparation of the export documents, the vehicle is delivered or shipped. You usually receive the original documents by courier or together with the vehicle.
